Trek Overview

The adventure begins with a thrilling flight to Lukla, famous for being one of the world’s most exciting airports. From Lukla, trekkers follow a scenic trail through picturesque villages, rhododendron forests, and sparkling rivers to Namche Bazaar, the bustling trade center of the Khumbu region. Namche serves as the gateway to the Himalayas, where travelers can experience the rich traditions, lifestyle, and culture of the local Sherpa communities.

Trek Highlights

From Namche Bazaar, the trek continues to Tengboche, home to the historic Tengboche Monastery, the largest and oldest monastery in the region. The trail then ascends toward Kala Patthar, offering panoramic views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), and other iconic peaks.

The journey culminates at Pokalde Base Camp, the starting point for summiting Pokalde Peak (5,806 m). The climb is moderately challenging, with occasional use of climbing equipment and a small hanging glacier on the northern side, providing an adventurous experience for climbers.

Summit Experience

From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with spectacular 360-degree Himalayan views, including Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other peaks of the Everest massif. After descending from Pokalde Peak, trekkers return to Namche Bazaar before taking a short flight back to Kathmandu, completing a truly unforgettable adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,338 m)


Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a member of our team will warmly welcome and transfer you to your hotel. You may choose to rest or take a leisurely stroll around the area. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2

Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m / 45 minutes) and Trek to Phakding (2,610 m / 3 hours)

 

The day begins with a thrilling and memorable flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Departing from Tribhuvan International Airport, the flight offers panoramic views of lush green valleys and picturesque settlements, gradually bringing you closer to the majestic Himalayan peaks.

The flight to Lukla lasts approximately 35 minutes. Upon arrival, you will take a short break in this Sherpa town, known as the gateway to the Everest region, before beginning the trek. From Lukla, the trail passes through Chaurikharka Village and descends towards the banks of the Dudh Koshi River.

Along the way, you will enjoy views of Khumbila Peak, considered sacred by the local Sherpas. Continuing past Dudhkoshi Ghat, you will reach Phakding. If time and energy permit, you can take a stroll around the village to explore the local lifestyle, culture and highlights of your first resting destination on this Himalayan expedition.

 

Day 3

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 6 hours)

 

After a hearty breakfast in Phakding, the trek continues along the classic Everest Base Camp route toward Namche Bazaar, the most popular resting destination in the region. The trail initially follows the north bank of the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges along the way.

This exciting section of the trek includes crossing the renowned Hillary Suspension Bridge and passing through the picturesque villages of Monjo and Jorsale. You will also enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The final part of the day involves a steep ascent to Namche Bazaar where you will be rewarded with your first awe-inspiring view of Mt. Everest and the surrounding eastern Himalayan peaks.

Day 4

Acclimatization Day: Hike to Everest View Hotel and Surrounding Hills

 

Having reached significant altitude from Lukla, you will spend this day acclimatizing before progressing to higher elevations. An acclimatization day allows your body to rest while gradually adjusting to the thinner air. To support effective acclimatization, short hikes around Namche Bazaar are recommended.

Popular hiking destinations include the charming Khunde Village and Khumjung Village. You may also explore key local landmarks such as Hillary School, Syangboche Airstrip, Sherpa Culture Museum and the world-famous Everest View Hotel at 3,962 meters, known as the highest hotel on the planet.

This day offers an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique culture, traditions and lifestyle of the Sherpa community, who have played a vital role in Himalayan mountaineering. If your visit coincides with Saturday, you can also experience the weekly Haat Bazaar in Namche, a lively local market showcasing the region’s vibrant culture.

Day 5

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m / 5 hours)

 

After properly acclimatizing at Namche, you will continue along the exciting trekking trail. Today’s route features several ascending and descending sections and the walk through enchanting rhododendron and juniper forests offers breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Thamserku.

The trail passes through Kenjoma and connects to the route from Khumjung stretching across the mani walls. After passing the small traditional village of Sansa, you will descend to Phunki Thanga before undertaking a steep ascent through pine forests.

Leaving the forested trail, you will continue along paths adorned with mani walls and prayer flags until reaching Tengboche. This Sherpa village in the Khumbu Valley is renowned for the Tengboche Monastery, the largest gompa in the region where you can observe Lamas offering prayers in the morning and evening.

Day 6

Trek from Tengboche to Pheriche (4,240 m / 5 hours)

 

The trek begins with a descent to Dingboche followed by a crossing of the Imja River. You will then ascend to Pangboche along the mani stones. Upon reaching Pangboche, you can take a short visit to the ancient monastery.

Continuing the ascent from Pangboche, the trail passes through Orsho and follows the Imja River before reaching Pheriche. Overnight stay at a lodge in Pheriche.

Day 7

Trek from Pheriche to Lobuche (4,910 m / 5 hours)

 

The trek begins with an ascent toward Lobuche, offering spectacular views of snow-covered mountains. You will follow the challenging curved path through rocky glacier moraine. Upon reaching the top, you will find several stone memorials built in honor of Sherpas who lost their lives while climbing Mt. Everest (8,848 m).

Continuing along the glacier, you will reach Lobuche. Overnight stay at a lodge in Lobuche.

Day 8

Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,140 m / 3 hours) and Afternoon Explore to Everest Base Camp (5,365 m / 5 hours)

 

Today’s journey takes you to one of the key highlights of this Himalayan expedition, Everest Base Camp. After breakfast, you will leave Lobuche and ascend along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier en route to Gorakshep, the final human settlement before Mt. Everest. After dropping your luggage, you will continue toward the base of the towering mountain, crossing the glacier.

Along the way, you will enjoy captivating views of the Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefall. During the high season, you may also see colorful tents set up by mountaineers preparing for their Everest Expedition.

After experiencing the epic Himalayan atmosphere and taking in the majesty of the surrounding peaks at the base camp, you will return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.

Day 9

Early Morning Hike to Kalapatthar (5,550 m / 2 hours) and Trek to Lobuche (4,910 m / 3 hours)

 

This morning begins with a hike to Kalapatthar, one of the most popular vantage points in the Everest region. You will start before dawn to witness the enchanting sunrise as its golden light reflects on the pristine snow-covered peaks. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of iconic mountains such as Everest, Pumori, Nuptse and Lhotse.

After returning from Kalapatthar, you will have a warm breakfast at Gorakshep before beginning your descent across the glacier moraines toward Lobuche.

Day 10

Trek from Lobuche to Pokalde Base Camp (4,400 m / 7 hours) via Kongma-La Pass (5,535 m)

 

Today, you will begin the journey toward the main objective of this Himalayan expedition, Pokalde Peak. After breakfast, you will leave Lobuche and trek toward Pokalde Base Camp, traversing the Kongma La Pass. The trail is steep and includes rocky sections, so careful footing is essential throughout the day.

After crossing the pass, you will continue to a large circular glacial lake beneath Kongma La Pass, where Pokalde Base Camp is located. Upon arrival, your climbing crew will set up camp and you will begin preparations for the summit attempt the following day.

Day 11

Trek from Pokalde Base Camp to High Camp (5,000 m / 5 hours)

 

The climb begins with an ascent from Pokalde Base Camp to High Camp. You will traverse sections of rock, ice and snow for approximately 4 to 5 hours. While the route is not highly technical, caution is advised due to occasional loose rocks.

Upon reaching High Camp, your crew will set up warm tents and you will take time to acclimatize to the alpine altitude. An early rest is recommended in preparation for the summit attempt, which begins before dawn the following day.

Day 12

Summit Pokalde Peak (5,806 m) and Trek Back to Chhukung (4,730 m / 8 hours)

 

The big day begins early in the morning as you start your ascent toward the summit of Pokalde Peak. You will navigate rocky and steep sections, making your way to the narrow summit.

From the top, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of surrounding peaks, including Makalu, Pumori, Ama Dablam and other mountains in the Everest region. After spending time at the summit, you will descend to the base camp, retracing the route through High Camp.

After leaving the base camp, the trail continues down to Chhukung Village, a charming acclimatization settlement located on the left fork of the Imja Khola. Celebrating your successful climb, you will rest and prepare for the return journey the following day.

 

Day 13

Trek from Chhukung to Tengboche (3,860 m / 6 hours)

 

Today, you will leave Chhukung Village to rejoin the mainstream Everest Base Camp trek route. The trek is relatively easy as most of the day involves descending from alpine altitudes to the warmer sub-alpine zones.

Following the downhill trail, you will trek alongside the Imja River toward Pheriche Village. From there, the route continues to Pangboche Village before arriving at Tengboche for an overnight stay.

Day 14

Trek from Tengboche to Monjo (2,835 m / 6 hours)

 

Leaving the spiritual ambiance of Tengboche Monastery, you will continue your journey toward the lower regions of the trail. From Tengboche, you will descend to Namche Bazaar and trek through charming rhododendron, fir and oak forests along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River.

During the final part of the trek, you will cross a suspension bridge over the river and arrive at Monjo Village, passing through the beautiful settlements of Jorsale and Larja Dobhan.

Day 15

Trek from Monjo to Lukla

 

On the final day of your Himalayan expedition, you will depart Monjo after breakfast and follow the trail along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, trekking through lush forests and scenic landscapes. Crossing several suspension bridges, you will pass Phakding Village before arriving at Lukla for an overnight stay.

Day 16

Early Morning Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu

 

After enjoying your final breakfast with stunning Himalayan views, you will take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. The short flight offers breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks and hills. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for relaxation or independent exploration. Overnight stay at a 4-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 17

Final Departure from Kathmandu

 

Today marks the final day of your Pokalde Peak Climbing itinerary. We will arrange transportation to the airport according to your flight schedule. Our staff will meet you at your hotel, assist with the checkout process and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey home.
