Special Information

  • Unique Local Insights : Everest Base Camp is iconic, but along the way, there are lesser-known gems that offer breathtaking views and serenity. For example, while Kala Patthar is a popular spot for an Everest sunrise, there are hidden viewpoints near Pheriche that offer equally stunning perspectives of Everest, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam without the crowds. Another secret: Take a short detour near Thyangboche to catch views of Everest framed beautifully between the ridges.
  • Cultural Etiquette : As you trek through Sherpa villages, it’s important to be respectful of local customs. Always walk clockwise around mani walls and stupas as a sign of respect. If you visit monasteries, remove your shoes and refrain from taking photos unless given permission. The Sherpa people deeply respect their Buddhist traditions, and showing appreciation for their culture enriches your trekking experience.
  • Environmental Responsibility : The Everest region is fragile, and responsible trekking is essential. Ensure you carry reusable water bottles, as plastic waste management is a challenge at high altitudes. Bring personal trash back down to Namche for proper disposal. As a trekking company, we promote “Leave No Trace” principles to protect this UNESCO-listed environment for future generations.
  • Health Tips Beyond Acclimatization : While acclimatization is crucial, maintaining hydration is just as important. Bring oral rehydration salts and make sure to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, which is common in the dry, high-altitude climate. Additionally, local foods like dal bhat are excellent for energy and nutrition, keeping you fueled for long trekking days. Wear strong sunscreen and lip balm with SPF to protect against the high-altitude sun, which is much harsher than at lower elevations.
  • Communication and Connectivity : While trekking in remote areas, communication can be limited. Most lodges along the route offer Wi-Fi, but the connection can be slow and unreliable. A good alternative is to buy a local SIM card with 3G service (available in Namche Bazaar). Charging stations are available in most tea houses, but it’s advisable to bring your own power bank for backup.
  • Weather Variability and Preparation : Weather in the Himalayas can change rapidly, especially at high altitudes. Be prepared for all types of conditions, including bright sunshine, snow, and strong winds, even in the same day. In spring and autumn, daytime temperatures can be warm, but evenings and mornings are chilly. Always pack layers, including a waterproof jacket and down coat for warmth.
  • Insurance Recommendations :We strongly advise comprehensive travel insurance that includes high-altitude trekking (above 5,000m) and emergency evacuation by helicopter. Many trekkers overlook this, but in case of severe altitude sickness or injury, emergency evacuation is the only safe option. Companies like World Nomads and Global Rescue offer policies specifically designed for trekking in Nepal.
  • Local Legends and Myths : The Sherpa people have many fascinating legends surrounding Everest and the Himalayas. One well-known myth is about the Yeti, or the "Abominable Snowman," said to roam the upper slopes of Everest. While sightings are rare and unproven, the Yeti remains a part of local folklore, adding a sense of mystique to the trek.
  • Sustainability and Community Impact : By trekking with us, you are supporting local communities and contributing to the sustainable development of the Everest region. We prioritize hiring local guides and porters, providing fair wages, and supporting community projects such as schools and hospitals. Our commitment is to responsible tourism that benefits both the environment and local people.
  • Post-Trek Recovery : After the physical demands of the trek, it's important to focus on recovery. Kathmandu offers a range of relaxation spots where you can unwind after your adventure. Treat yourself to a traditional Nepali massage or enjoy yoga sessions specifically designed to help trekkers stretch out tired muscles. We recommend places like the Yoga & Spa in Thamel for a perfect recovery experience.

Day 2

Kathmandu to - Lukla [2840 m/9320] - Phakding [2,652m/8,700ft]:

30-minute flight, 3–4 hours trek
From the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport, we take an early morning flight to Lukla (2,800m / 9,186ft)—the gateway to our trek. After an adventurous 40-minute flight over breathtaking green hills and snow-capped mountains, we land at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. This is one of the most scenic air routes in the world, ending with a dramatic landing on a hillside surrounded by towering peaks.

Upon arrival in Lukla, we meet the rest of our trekking crew. After completing some packing and final arrangements, we begin our trek through the thriving village of Lukla and continue on to Phakding. To aid in acclimatization, today's hike is kept short. However, if you're interested in exploring more, you may take a side trip to a nearby monastery.

Overnight at a basic lodge in Phakding.
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D).

Day 3

Phakding - Namche Bazaar [3440 m/11,280 ft]: 5 - 6 hrs walk

Our trek begins in the morning after breakfast. Today’s walk is pleasant, with a few short ascents and descents, and multiple crossings over the Dudh Koshi River. From Benkar village, we enjoy a magnificent view of Mt. Thamserku (6,608m / 21,675ft).

We cross several more suspension bridges and arrive at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, where our trekking permits are checked to maintain a record of trekkers and local staff. A descent followed by a gentle walk brings us to Jorsale, the last village before reaching Namche Bazaar.

The trail continues along the riverbed until we reach the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. From here, the path climbs uphill toward Namche Bazaar. As we ascend, we are rewarded with increasingly close and stunning views of Kwangde Peak, its sister peaks, Kusum Kangaru, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, and many other magnificent mountains. We pause at Chautara to admire the panorama.

Finally, we reach the colorful village of Namche Bazaar, the main gateway to the Khumbu region.
Overnight at a guest house. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D).

Day 4

Acclimatization Day. Day Hike Everest View Hotel Back to Hotel. Namche Bazaar.

This is the first of the three scheduled acclimatization days. Health experts strongly recommend staying active and moving during rest days rather than remaining idle. We may spend the day hiking to Khumjung and visiting Khunde, or simply relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar.

Trekking a few hundred vertical feet during the day helps the body adjust properly to the altitude. Your guide will also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center, located near the Sagarmatha National Park Headquarters, where you can learn about the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture, and the diverse flora and fauna of the Everest region.

Namche Bazaar is the main hub of the Khumbu (Everest) region and is equipped with government offices, ATMs, internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery, and a lively market held every Friday evening and Saturday.

Overnight at a guest house in Namche Bazaar.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D).

Day 5

Trek from Namche Bazaar  to Tengboche (3867m)

Today, the trail begins with a gentle ascent from Namche Bazaar up to Chor Camp, followed by an easy and mostly level walk to Kyangjuma (3,550m). Along the way from Chor Camp to Kyangjuma, you can enjoy incredible panoramic views of Mt. Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Lhotse Shar (8,382m), Nuptse (7,879m), Peak 38 (7,591m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,783m), Kusum Kangaru (6,367m), Cholatse (6,335m), Taboche Peak (6,495m), Khumbi La (5,765m), and Kwangde Ri (6,011m).

From Kyangjuma, the trail continues with a pleasant walk through a rhododendron forest to Sanasa, where the path splits:

The left-hand trail leads to the Gokyo Valley Trek,
While the right-hand trail continues directly toward Everest Base Camp.
From Sanasa, the trail descends gradually through a pine forest to Lausasa, where there are a few teahouses. Afterward, the path drops steeply through dense pine and rhododendron forest to Phungi Thanga, a small settlement located on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River at an altitude of 3,250m.

The trail then climbs steeply at first, followed by a more gradual ascent through beautiful blue pine and rhododendron forest, eventually reaching the hilltop of Tengboche Monastery (3,867m). The views of both sunset and sunrise from Tengboche, along with the majestic panorama of Mt. Everest and surrounding Himalayan peaks, are among the most unforgettable of the entire trek.

Tengboche Monastery is one of the most beautiful and spiritually significant monasteries in the Solukhumbu region and is considered the religious center of the entire Sherpa homeland.

Overnight at a guest house. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D).

Day 6

Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m)

From Tengboche, the trail first descends to Deboche (3,820m) through a serene forest of birch, juniper, conifers, and rhododendrons. Deboche is a small settlement that also hosts a quiet monastery.

The level trail continues from Deboche to Imja Khola, passing numerous Mani walls in a dense rhododendron forest. Along this route—especially before crossing the Imja Khola—you may spot musk deer, blue sheep, and pheasants (the national bird of Nepal).

After crossing the Imja Khola, the trail climbs past beautifully carved Mani stones to reach Lower Pangboche (3,930m). Beyond Pangboche, the trail is relatively level at first and then gradually ascends to Somare (4,010m), followed by an easy walk to Orsho (4,190m).

From Orsho, the trail splits in two:

The upper left-hand trail leads to Pheriche.
The lower right-hand trail, which runs above the Imja Khola, gradually ascends to Dingboche (4,410m).
Throughout the day, enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Lhotse Shar (8,382m), Nuptse (7,879m), Peak 38 (7,591m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,783m), Kusum Kangaru (6,367m), Cholatse (6,335m), and Island Peak (6,189m).

Overnight at a guest house. Meals included: Breakfast (B).

Day 7

Acclimatization day at Dingboche: Hike  TO Nagarjung Peak back to hotel.

Today is an important day, as it marks the second and final acclimatization day of the trek (you may recall the first one was at Namche Bazaar). As before, we will use the day to hike to a higher altitude and then return to Dingboche to spend the night.

A well-known saying in high-altitude trekking is: "Climb high, sleep low." This approach is considered wise and sometimes essential especially when ascending more than 305 meters (1,000 feet) above 3,050 meters (10,000 feet). Sleeping at a lower altitude than the highest point reached during the day supports safe and effective acclimatization.

Our hike begins with a gradual ascent to the Nangkartshang Hermitage, a popular stopping point for many trekkers. However, if we’re feeling well and eager for even better views, we may choose to continue on and reach the summit of Nangkartshang Peak, where breathtaking panoramic views await.

Afterward, we return to our lodge in Dingboche for the night.
Overnight at a guest house. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D).

Day 8

Trek from Dingboche  to Lobuche (4910m)

From Dingboche, the trail passes through farmlands and meadows before continuing along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. You will then reach Dughla (4,620m). After that, the trail ascends steeply and rocky to Dughla Pass (4,830m), where you can see numerous stone memorials dedicated to climbers who have perished on nearby summits.

From the pass, enjoy magnificent views of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,856m), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,783m), Cholatse (6,335m), Lobuche East (6,090m), Pumori (7,165m), Lingtren (6,713m), Khumbutse (6,639m), Nuptse (7,879m), and more.

Beyond Dughla Pass, the trail gently ascends and then descends slightly before continuing as a level walk to Lobuche (4,910m).
Overnight at a guest house. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D).

Day 9

Lobuche trek to Gorak Shep (5140m) then visit Everest base camp (5364m)

Today, the trail follows the western side of the Khumbu Valley, ascending gently through meadows near the glacial moraine. Afterward, the path ascends and descends over rocky terrain, winding around several ridges. Along the way, you can enjoy incredible views of Pumori (7,167m), Lingtren (6,713m), Khumbutse (6,639m), Nuptse (7,879m), Lobuche East (6,090m), as well as the Khumbu Glacier and the Khumbu Icefall.

After crossing several ridges, the trail descends slightly to reach Gorak Shep (5,140m). Upon arrival, you may have lunch and leave your backpack at the teahouse before starting the trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). This round trip trek takes about four and a half hours. The trail to the base camp traverses glacier and snow-covered rocks. Along the route, you can also see several small frozen lakes.

From Everest Base Camp, you will see many towering peaks including Pumori (7,165m), Lingtren (6,713m), Khumbutse (6,639m), Nuptse (7,879m), and Lhotse (8,516m). However, Mount Everest (8,848m) is not visible from the base camp itself, though you will have views of it along the trail.

The most impressive sight at Everest Base Camp is the Khumbu Icefall. After enjoying your time at the base camp, you will return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Overnight at a guest house. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (B, L, D)

Day 10

Hike to Kala Pattar (5545m) then trek back to Pheriche or pangboche (4260m)

Today, early in the morning, you will hike up from Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5,545m) for a magnificent view of the surrounding Himalayas and a breathtaking sunrise.
The trail begins with a steep ascent for approximately 30 minutes until you reach a relatively flat section—famously known as the site where the Government of Nepal held a cabinet meeting in 2009 to raise awareness about global warming. This was the first cabinet meeting conducted at such a high altitude anywhere in the world.

Following that, the trail continues to climb steeply with several switchbacks until you reach Kala Patthar. The final 50 meters involves a rocky ascent to the summit of the main Kala Patthar viewpoint (5,545m). From here, you’ll witness an awe-inspiring sunrise over Mt. Everest (8,848m), along with panoramic views of Lhotse (8,516m), Nuptse (7,879m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,783m), Kusum Kanguru (6,367m), Cholatse (6,335m), Taboche Peak (6,495m), Lobuche Peak (6,090m), Lingtren (6,713m), Khumbutse (6,639m), Lho La, the South Col, Changtse, Everest Base Camp, Khumbu Icefall, and several glacial lakes.
Standing at Kala Patthar, it feels as though you are touching Mt. Pumori itself and experiencing an incredibly close-up view of Mt. Everest—truly a dream come true.

After spending quality time at Kala Patthar, you’ll return to Gorak Shep for breakfast. The trek then continues downhill, passing through Lobuche and Dughla. A short distance beyond Dughla, you will cross a river that originates from Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Icefall. Eventually, you will reach a junction: the left-hand trail leads to Dingboche, while the right-hand trail descends to Pheriche.

From here, enjoy an easy walk through the valley until you reach Pangboche (4,260m).
Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).

Day 11

Trek from Pheriche or Pangboche to Namche bazaar Altitude: 3440m/11283ft Walking Distance: 14km (5 to 6 hours)

Today, we retrace our original trail as we begin our descent down the mountain.
The journey offers yet another opportunity to experience the rich Sherpa culture along the way. Be sure not to miss the fascinating scenes of yak herding and traditional mountain life.

Although the trail is mostly downhill, there is a surprisingly challenging uphill section that takes about an hour to climb so be prepared for one final push. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive back in Namche Bazaar, where you can rest and reflect on the incredible journey.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (B/L/D).

Day 12

Namche to  Lukla  via Phakding Altitude: 2,800m/9,184ft Walking Distance: 16km (6-8 hours)

The trail leads us across the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge and through a number of traditional local villages, offering one last chance to enjoy the scenery and culture of the Khumbu region.

FAQs

The best time to trek to Everest base camp are autumn (Mid-September to November) and spring (March to early June). This trek is possible year-round, and we can organize it when it suits your schedule. However, we generally suggest doing this trek in the favorable seasons and keep away from rainstorm season (July and August). In cold months of January and February, the temperature can be a little harsh in the mountains. However, some prefer to travel during these months as it is less crowded given that you are well prepared with appropriate winter wear and other gears.

Due to its tendency to be localized, the weather in the Everest region is challenging to forecast. You could see rain, fog, cold, or hot and sunny weather while trekking. It is best to be equipped to handle various weather situations. In the Everest region, nighttime temperatures are significantly lower than midday temperatures. In less than a day, the temperature can change from a high of 25°C (77°F) to a low of – 20°C (-4°F). The weather and temperature ranges are typically predictable based on the month and season, even though it might be challenging to predict what each day in the mountains will bring.Spring – March/April/May/JuneDespite being the busiest season, spring is perhaps the best time to visit the Everest region. Activities assisting the expedition teams take place in Everest Base Camp. The many varieties of blossoming trees should be visible, and the sky should be clear with stunning vistas. During springtime, the average temperature is 20°C (68°F), with a high of 25°C (77°F) during clear days and a low of – 15°C (5°F) overnight above 4000 meters.Monsoon season – July/August through Mid-SeptemberSince it rains heavily at elevations below 3500 meters, this season isn’t exactly ideal for travel in the Everest region. While it can occasionally be dry in areas above 4000 meters, it frequently rains so therefore not many people travel during this season. Trekking during the monsoon season has some advantages, such as a greater possibility of seeing waterfalls and the best opportunity to escape crowds. During the monsoon, the average temperature is 22°C (71.6°F), with a high of 30°C (86°F) during clear days and a low of- 5°C (23°F) overnight above 4000 meters.Autumn – End of September/October/NovemberIn the Everest region, autumn is equally as busy as spring. It is one of the best times to go, too. While the plants and trees are not in bloom, the sky is often clear, offering breathtaking vistas from almost every viewpoint. The average temperature in autumn is 17°C (62.6°F), with a high of 20°C (68°F) during clear days and a low of – 15°C (5°F) overnight above 4000 meters.Winter – December/January/FebruaryDue to fewer tourists, some people like winter travel. Even while the views are still beautiful, it can be cloudy, thus adding extra days is highly advised during this time. The average temperature is 10°C (50°F), with a high of 17°C (62.6°F) during clear days and a low of – 20°C (- 4°F) overnight above 4000 meters. The teahouses provide extra blankets for warmth at night.

The temperature rating of the sleeping bags that we rent to trekkers is about -10°C (14°F). Also, our guides can obtain extra blankets if needed at the teahouses.

Yes, it’s possible to hike to Kala Patthar before reaching Everest Base Camp to witness stunning sunsets. However, due to unpredictable mountain evening weather, the safer approach is to trek to Everest Base Camp first and then ascend to Kala Patthar early the following morning.

Typically, USD 15 to 20 per person per day will be sufficient. This is to purchase water, tea/espresso, snacks, and hot showers in the mountains and for lunch or dinner in Kathmandu. Additionally, if you want to buy souvenirs or native Nepali goods, you can bring extra cash with you.

Nepalese Rupees cash is preferred to a credit card while trekking in the mountain region. Exchanging your cash into Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu before the beginning of the trek is ideal. This can be accomplished at the airport, at banks, or at your hotel. Please note the hotels will exchange up to about USD 100 for each transaction only. There are ATMs up to Namche Bazaar but can be unreliable. The currency exchange rate is better in Kathmandu.
