Bokta peak climbing one of the very best climbing at kachanjungga area in the category of 6000m peaks. Bokta peak is located in Taplejung District of eastern of Nepal Closed to the thirst Highest Mountain in the world – Mt Kachanjungga. Bokta peak stand tall at an altitude of (6114m) above the sea level. The west side of this peak is straight up and technical. There is no straightforward path in the east side of this peak and the most appropriate path is north of the mountain. The route follows the snow slope while the slope is quite vertical and vulnerability to rock fall. Meals

During our Bokta peak climbing (6114m) kanchanjungga; we can enjoy typical Nepali food, different ethnic cuisines as well as all types of international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian.) from pizza and Chips to apple pie. We can even enjoy hot chocolates, variety of breads, variety of drinks, and snacks. Breakfast of a day will be served from the tea house or lodge menu where we spent the night. Lunch will be served on the way to destination and dinner and breakfast will be served at the tea house where you spend the night.

Accommodations

All accommodations for Bokta peak climbing (6114m) kanchanjungga are on twin sharing basis included in the trip cost and are chosen based on standard of hygiene, standard of service and food, location, etc. There are two styles of accommodations during the trip. We will spend 23 nights in standard tea house or lodge or Tent hotel in which there are unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses. I will try to provide Best Tea house as much as possible, however tea houses or lodges of some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities

Health and Experience Requirements

Bokta peak climbing (6114m) kanchanjungga is a difficult trip suitable for passionate adventurers who have ability to walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light day pack. In some days we might even need to walk more hours. Walking in higher altitude is physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, those in excellent physical condition with above average fitness and some hiking experience can do this trek. Positive attitude, self-confidence and strong determination are things that aid to accomplish trip successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior of the trip are good idea to enhance strength and stability.

Acclimatization

'During Bokta peak climbing (6114m) kanchanjungga itinerary is planned with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Going up at higher altitudes too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to result in death. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen will be in the air. For example, at an altitude above of 5000m, there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. Therefore, our body needs many days to adapt to an environment with less oxygen. Itineraries generally allow sufficient time to acclimatize. So, for a safe trek, it is absolutely essential to allow sufficient time for acclimatization. Sensible planning is therefore required to minimize the risk of AMS. Mild headaches, fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorders are symptoms of AMS.

Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 2

Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur Drive to Taplejung

Travel from Kathmandu to Taplejung via Bhadrapur begins with a scenic 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, followed by an 8–9 hour drive to Taplejung by private jeep. Located in eastern Nepal, Taplejung is a culturally rich destination known for its Limbu and Rai communities, whose traditions reflect a unique blend of Hinduism, Buddhism, and indigenous animistic practices.

The Taplejung region is widely recognized for its large-scale cardamom farming, one of Nepal’s key agricultural exports, and offers spectacular views of the Himalayan foothills, lush hillsides, and remote mountain landscapes. This peaceful town serves as a gateway to popular treks such as the Kanchenjunga region.

Day 3

Taplejung to Sekathum (1,500 m) – Trek to Aamjilasa (2,400 m)

After breakfast in Taplejung, enjoy a scenic 3–4 hour mountain drive to Sekathum by shared jeep. From Sekathum, begin your trek towards Aamjilasa, which takes approximately 4–5 hours. The trail passes through dense rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and cardamom plantations, showcasing the rich biodiversity of eastern Nepal. Along the route, you will notice Tibetan Buddhist influences, including prayer flags and chortens.

Day 4

Aamjilasa to Gyabla (2,750 m)

Trek from Aamjilasa to Gyabla in about 5–6 hours, following a scenic trail through alpine forests and across suspension bridges over the Ghunsa River. Gyabla is a traditional Tibetan-influenced village where trekkers experience warm local hospitality. Wildlife sightings may include red pandas, Himalayan thar, and diverse bird species.

Day 5

Gyabla to Ghunsa (3,430 m)

Continue trekking to Ghunsa (4–5 hours), one of the most important settlements in the Kanchenjunga region. This picturesque village features wooden houses, terraced fields, and a vibrant Buddhist culture. Visit the local monastery and observe traditional lifestyles of Tibetan-origin communities involved in yak herding and trade.

Day 6

Acclimatization Day in Ghunsa

Spend a full day acclimatizing in Ghunsa to adapt to the increasing altitude. Optional hikes to nearby viewpoints offer panoramic mountain views, and a visit to Ghunsa Monastery provides cultural insight. Proper acclimatization is essential to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Ghunsa to Khambachen (4,050 m)

Trek from Ghunsa to Khambachen (5–6 hours), walking through larch and juniper forests. The trail rewards you with breathtaking views of Jannu Peak (7,710 m), one of Nepal’s most iconic mountains. Khambachen is a high-altitude settlement surrounded by glaciers and rugged Himalayan landscapes.

Day 8

Acclimatization in Khambachen – Visit Jannu Base Camp

Take a rest and acclimatization day with an optional hike to Jannu Base Camp (approximately 6 hours round trip). This excursion offers stunning views of the Jannu Glacier and surrounding peaks. Khambachen is home to Tibetan-speaking Buddhist communities, providing a deep cultural experience.

Day 9

Khambachen to Lonak (4,800 m)

Trek from Khambachen to Lonak in about 5–6 hours, following a rugged trail across glacial moraines and high-altitude terrain. Vegetation becomes sparse, dominated by mosses and lichens, while dramatic mountain scenery surrounds you.

Day 10

Lonak to Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp – 5,143 m) and Return to Khambachen

Hike to Pangpema, the North Base Camp of Mount Kanchenjunga, and return to Khambachen (total 8–9 hours). Pangpema offers one of the best panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the third-highest mountain in the world.

Day 11

Khambachen to Ghunsa (3,430 m)

Descend back to Ghunsa in 5–6 hours, passing through alpine meadows and forested trails. The descent provides more opportunities to interact with local villagers and observe traditional mountain life.

Ghunsa to Selele Camp (4,480 m)

Selele Camp to Tseram via Mrigen-La & Sinen-La Passes (4,646 m)

Summit Preparation & Acclimatization

Summit Bokta Peak (6,143 m) – Return to Tseram

Begin the summit push early in the morning. The climb includes steep snow slopes and technical sections. From the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga, Jannu, and Makalu. Descend carefully to Tseram after the climb.

Day 18

Tseram to Yarsang (2,144 m)

Descend to Yarsang in 6–7 hours, trekking through lush forests and rich vegetation. This section is ideal for birdwatching and cultural encounters with local communities.

Yarsang to Helok (1,740 m) – Drive to Taplejung
